Calvin Benton with a 238 and Howard Folmer with a 217

Feb. 20, 2017

We picked until dark and took off toward the Island.

Choppy weather made for a couple of heart felt losses on the bow but we did have some chances.
We will see what kind of time we have for tomorrow when we get there

Charles Robinson picked off this nice 215 to complete a nice day.

A few this afternoon would go a long way

We had a little shot in the morning .Still no current and hoping for another shot this afternoon

Feb. 19, 2017

We managed a taste of this decent grade fish. Conditions died at 3:00 and we had no current. Only a couple fish at dark

Feb. 17, 2017

till waiting for some change here. We will keep working at it until things straighten out here. The weather is great and we have plenty of time for things to get better. Larry and John with a couple of fish in the morning.

Feb. 15th, 2016

Hard to get anything started with just a little bit of fish here and there. Certainly potential though. We are going to give it another half day and if no change head outside and try and pick there.

Feb. 14th, 2016

A little starter this morning with a dozen of these 70 to 100 pound fish. Nothing bigger yet but we are just getting started. Nice conditions here and good sign so hopefully we can scrape a day together.

Feb. 11th, 2016

We left on our annual Larry Brown 16 day fly home trip. We picked up a nice load of bait and then Larry went into his signature raffle. No expense was spared on the big raffle items. Thanks to the Sponsors listed below for your contributions.  Between the happy faces on the winners and the charitable donations it was a complete success.

Feb. 4th, 2016

We had a great day today.

Incredible weather and conditions with no sharks!
I don’t know what happened to them but they were gone today

Jan. 29, 2016

Thomas Ferrari with an 84.5 pound wahoo. One cast one fish.

Hard earned fish today. The sharks ate us up starting first thing in the morning and continued to dark.
Sonny Jones dragged a 205 through the sharks and Rocco dragged a 203 through them.
The bread and butter grade was around but no current all day made it hard to fish.
Hopefully we have current tomorrow

Jan. 25, 2016

We will see how it goes tomorrow. Forecast calls for more wind!We picked this afternoon and got the feel for things .Oh my is it windy. We were lucky to get the anchor to hold and picked 120 to 150 pounders until dark, a little start anyway

Jan. 22, 2016

Bill Walsh , June Heat veteran made us up these nice rod holders
for the upper deck rails.
They clamp on the rail and can hold six big outfits each.
When I get the reels on I will show more.
Thanks Wild Bill!

We made it out yesterday morning with just a bit of the storm on our tail. Bluefin Jim and Sonny Jones are out with some great giveaways including Pelagic Gear. So far headed south after a great load of bait and the weather is better and better.

Jan. 18, 2016

Jan. 15, 2016

Some of the a wahoo were up
in the 50 pound range.
A nice release on a striped marlin as well

Jan. 8, 2016

We had a tough first day that included battling sharks throughout. We scraped up 8.70 to 85 pound tuna on various spots. The conditions were good so hopefully tomorrow.
We are going to try for bait tonight and give it a go tomorrow

Jan. 6, 2016

The weather has been great so far on our way south. Cold but now starting to warm up. One more day of travel and then we can get this show started.

Jan. 4, 2016

Good afternoon folks. We are headed south on a 15 day Loftus and Martin sponsored trip. The bait situation is the best we have had with great hook baits and some smaller bait mixed in for chum. Lovely weather today for our departure.
Happy New Year to all !

We have been traveling up from the lower banks for the last couple of days. The weather has been phenomenal. We have made stops along the way, trying different spots with mixed results. One high spot delivered some smaller grade yellowtail and a couple others had biting bass. It was nice to break up the traveling with some fishing. We are going to be on the same program for today, our last day of this trip.

Dec. 18, 2016

Today was definitely a different fishing day than yesterday. We didn’t get the good south current we needed until late. The school grade fish were boiling next to the boat all day and were a source of instant action to anybody who dropped down in line test and fished a sardine. We are going to have to leave here and start traveling north tonight. Hopefully we can find some fish up along the coast on the way home.

Dec. 17, 2016

Roy picked up his first ever cow in the grey on the Pl 68 glow jig.
Congratulations. 220.3 lb

Martin Gomez with his 202 # fish

Dec. 16, 2016

Izorline rep Roy captured a rare yellowtail.

Dec. 15, 2016

After a slow day yesterday we finally got our trip started. There were some wahoo left over in this cooling water and the tuna fishing was very good. This school size fish is very eager to bite and most of the people have close to what they want. We are going to try another drift or two before we head further south.

Tom Ferrari

Dec. 13, 2016

We are headed south on our 10 – day izorline trip. We spend our travel day getting rigged up and prepping the boat for our days of fishing to come. Thank you to Izorline for all the great raffle prizes. Thanks also to Calstar rods and Accurate reels for providing loaner gear for the angles to use.

LA James with a nice fish .

We desperately need to get some baits for the kite .The little sardines were frustrating to use . Hopefully we can get some bigger bait tonight. We had better action today with a few nice fish mixed in. The prospect looked good and hopefully things are on the upswing.

Nov. 30, 2016

We had the conditions we were hoping for and picked off a handful of decent fish up to 170 pounds this morning. Conditions remain great just no fish around right now. The sharks were bad all morning until the fish briefly moved in and then backed off for a little bit.

Nov. 29, 2016

Good morning folks. We have had windy conditions most of the way down. We are starting out at the Bank as the weather looks good after tomorrow.

Nov. 12, 2016

Nov. 4, 2016

We managed to scratch out a day on this wahoo.

The action was better in the morning but we definitely hooked our fair share of fish through out the day.The loses were just very high.

We will give this a try tomorrow and hope for a morning hit before we look for some tuna.Tom Ferrari

Nov. 3, 2016

Conditions seem like they are trying to improve here. We have a couple of wahoo for the morning. We are going to sit here a while longer and see what happens.

Nov. 1, 2016

What a change a couple of days makes. After a blazing hot couple of weeks fishing out of Puerto Vallarta this local offshore weather feels down right cold! We had a busy turn around yesterday for our annual Charkbait 8 – day trip. We get a nice load of sardines from the bait dock and headed south. We will spend the first day traveling. A fishing seminar will be given mid morning and then the rest of the day will be dedicated to getting rigged up.
Thanks to Charkbait for the gift cards, t – shirts, and goodie bags.

We have been making good speed on our ride up. The weather has been great, and we all know how enjoyable a calm ride home is.

Oct. 28, 2016

Nice traveling weather so far on our ride up from PV, but we still have a long way to go. Hopefully we can make the Cape at a reasonable time and make our first turn towards home. I will post an eta for San Diego in a day or two.

September 4th, 2016

Today was another great day of anchor fishing. We captured 51 of these beautiful size tuna. The hot rig the last couple of days has been the smaller reels, accurate boss 500, okuma makaira 10, a stiffer rod like a calstar 700h or 800h, 30-40 izorline mono and a short leader of matching seaguar florocarbon.

The best hook size has been the 1/0 . A smaller hook seems to make a difference.

We are staying here for the last day of our trip. Hopefully we can finish up strong.
Tom Ferrari

Aug. 28. 2016
That’s it gang for the annual Oldenkamp charter. What a great trip we’ve had with a lot of fun with friends and family not to mention a little bit of excellent fishing in between the laughs and good times that were had by all. Sorry to have to say it but we’re heading home and we will be in tomorrow morning at 7 : 00 am . This afternoon the fishing slowed down a bit due to this 20 knots of breez we had out here but that didn’t stop some of these fish to bite and there was action for those willing to brave the wind and light line. See you all in the morning.

Derek Waldman
Staying busy all afternoon again today a little more wind then yesterday but fishing is still good and it’s still this awesome 40# grade with a few bigger models mixed in
